Das Palais wurde im 16. Jahrhundert von Jh. Johann Baptist Fontana, Hofmaler von Erzherzog Ferdinand II. erbaut. Später wechselte der Besitz an Philipp Jakob von Trezo, Friedrich Schrenk von Notzing und Wilhelm Reinhardt. 1712-23 wurde das heutige Palais errichtet. 1775 wechselte der Besitz an die Herren von Pfeiffersberg. Heute ist das Gebäude im Besitz der Stadt Innsbruck.
