Palais Liechtenstein

The Palais Liechtenstein is located in the city of Feldkirch at Schlossergasse 8.

From 1658 to 1697, the building at this address was an archducal tax office and was destroyed in the city fire of 1697. Afterwards, Prince Johann Adam Andreas Liechtenstein had a palace built in the Baroque style and converted it for use as the Liechtenstein administrative building. In 1719, the palace became the administrative seat of the Lordship of Schellenberg (1699) and the County of Vaduz (1712). In 1774, it was sold by the Princes of Liechtenstein. It was subsequently used as a brewery, inn, spinning mill under Christian Getzner, and as the seat of a reading society. In 1848, Andreas Ritter von Tschavoll, then mayor of Feldkirch and a manufacturer, acquired the palace. Later, Mayor Anton Gohm inherited the palace. In 1967, the palace became the property of the city of Feldkirch and is now used as the city archive and city library, as well as for exhibitions.

The building with a gabled roof parallel to the street has a sandstone portal with an architrave-like canopy, and the central windows on the main floor have segmental arch canopies. The sgraffito and frescoed facade bears a coat of arms of the Prince of Liechtenstein. On the first floor, there is a valuable wooden coffered ceiling.
