Gise Palace
The Palais Gise (also called Palais Arco) is a city palace in the late Rococo style located at Prannerstraße 9 in Munich. It was probably built around 1760/65 according to the designs of Munich's chief court architect Carl Albrecht von Lespilliez.
The building has a two-story plinth. Above it rises the main floor with six segmental arch windows, framing a richly decorated round arch window flanked by two pilasters. The influence of François de Cuvilliés, whose student von Lespilliez was, is clearly visible. Due to extensive destruction during the Second World War, today only the facade, adorned with numerous stucco elements, remains in its original state.
Owners+
The Palais was initially owned by the Counts of Taufkirchen before it passed to the Counts of Arco in 1731. In 1837, Friedrich August Freiherr von Gise bought it for 33,000 guilders. It remained in family ownership until 1906, after which it successively passed to various banks and companies. Today, it houses the building department of the Archbishop's Ordinariate of Munich-Freising.
