Upper Castle Immendingen

Obere Schloss is both a landmark of the municipality of Immendingen and its town hall. The oldest part of the castle dates back to the 12th century.

For the years 1409 and 1466, the castle is documented as being owned by the Lords of Almenshofen, in whose possession it remained until 1531. After the House of Fürstenberg acquired the Obere Schloss from the Reischach family in 1807, they established Baden's first machine factory there in 1835, whose large water wheel was powered by water from the Weisenbach. The production program included the construction of wheels, sawmills, and gristmills. In 1889, production was moved to the Untere Schloss. In the 1930s, the municipality of Immendingen acquired the castle, which was used for residential purposes, including for refugees, until 1961. The town had the castle fundamentally renovated and converted into the town hall between 1961 and 1963.

The castle is approximately square with side lengths of 33 and 27 meters respectively and has a round tower at each corner except for the northeast corner. In the center of the complex is an inner courtyard. Originally, it was probably a moated castle, whose moats are now filled in.
