The castle was owned by Johann Bartholomäus Welser from 1607, who established a brewery in the house. In 1614, ownership changed to Dr. Veith Krell von Grimmenstein. In 1642, the castle was used as an episcopal administrative building. In the 18th century, it served as a village court and from 1772 was the seat of the high-stift administrative officer. Since 1803, it has been used as a residential and commercial building.
