New Castle Urfahrn

Urfahrn Castle is a castle ensemble in Reisach in the upper Bavarian Inn Valley (municipality of Oberaudorf). It is located only a few meters from the Carmelite monastery Reisach, west of the Inn river.

The New Urfahrn Castle consists of a three-story main building with two-story wing buildings. It was built in 1721/27 by Abraham Millauer according to plans by Johann Baptist Gunetzrhainer. It is the only castle built in the upper Inn Valley in the 18th century. The builder was the Electoral Brewery Commissioner and Court Chamber Councillor Johann Georg von Messerer, who founded the Urfahrn Monastery - today Reisach - a few years later. The castle ensemble includes a castle chapel (18th century) and a crypt chapel (1725) with furnishings; two outbuildings with tent roofs, the castle park with surrounding wall, and a residential building with a hip roof (all also 18th century). It was last restored in 1949/50 by the then owner Wilhelm Bracht.
