Cēsis New Castle

The adaptation of the castle buildings to the needs of an estate began as early as the late 16th century. In 1777, Count Karl von Sievers acquired the property and built his new residence on the east side of the castle, with the rear wall of the palace bordering a fortification tower. Since 1949, the Cēsis History Museum has been located in this new castle. The forecourt of the castle is enclosed by a granary and a carriage house, the latter now serving as the museum's exhibition hall. Adjacent to the granary is Latvia's oldest brewery, built in 1878 under Count Emanuel von Sievers, though its origins date back to the Teutonic Order period. The Cēsis Castle Park, established in 1812, displays the typical romantic features of gardens from that era, including winding paths, exotic plants, and a pond reflecting the castle ruins.

The New Cēsis Castle is located in Cēsis, a town in the Vidzeme region of Latvia. It stands at an elevation of approximately 111 meters above sea level.

Visitors to the New Cēsis Castle today will find the Cēsis History Museum. The former carriage house now serves as an exhibition hall, and nearby is Latvia's oldest brewery. The castle is publicly accessible and offers insights into the region's history.
