New Castle (Bad Arolsen)

The Neues Schloss (New Castle) is a castle with an adjoining park in Bad Arolsen, North Hesse, in the Waldeck-Frankenberg district, near the Arolsen Residenzschloss.
The castle was built as a widow's residence for Princess Christiane, the wife of Karl August Friedrich zu Waldeck-Pyrmont, between 1764 and 1778 by master builder Franz Friedrich Rothweil. The castle was furnished with an interior in the Rococo style. After the completion of the construction work, a large castle park was created. This was diversely planted, predominantly with exotic conifers. To the south, it concluded with a large, terraced fruit and vegetable garden. In a travel guide from 1785, the "Princess's Garden" was described as a special beauty.
In 1853, it was redesigned in the Neoclassical style according to the plans of Wilhelm Braß and master builder Franz Curtze.
In 1970, the entire interior of the castle was destroyed by fire. Reconstruction began in the same year. After completion in 1974, it was opened as a hotel, the "Neue Schloss". In 1998, a further extension was added, and since then the former castle hotel has been used as a tinnitus clinic.
Schlossbrunnen Healing Spring
In 1972/1973, a successful bore for healing water was drilled in the castle park. A calcium-magnesium-sulfate was found at a depth of approx. 400 meters. The discovered healing water stimulates bowel function and has a regulating effect on gastric juices; it is also suitable for eliminating disorders of bile and liver function.
The healing water is dispensed in the pump room daily from May to October from 10:30 to 11:15 AM and from 4:00 to 4:45 PM, and from November to April from Sunday to Friday from 10:30 to 11:15 AM. (Source: City of Bad Arolsen, as of May 2011)
