Münster Unserer Lieben Frau

The origins of the Minster date back to the 12th century, when a Romanesque pillar basilica with three naves and a cruciform plan stood on this site. This predecessor church, consecrated in 1109, was expanded in the 15th and 17th centuries with the addition of chapels. After the monastery was rebuilt in the Baroque style in 1688, Abbot Augustin Stegmüller decided to demolish the Romanesque basilica to make way for a larger structure that could accommodate the growing stream of pilgrims. Construction of the choir and towers began in 1739, followed by the laying of the foundation stone for the nave in 1740 under master builders Josef and Martin Schneider. After difficulties with the vaulting, the Munich architect Johann Michael Fischer took over, whose design produced one of the most significant late Baroque buildings. The vault was closed in 1747, and the church was consecrated in 1765. Final completion occurred in 1785, and since then, the church's appearance has remained largely unchanged.

The Minster of Our Lady is located in the city of Reutlingen in the state of Baden-Württemberg, Germany. It is a central point in the Zwiefalter Alb region.

Today, the Minster of Our Lady serves as a parish and pilgrimage church and is an active part of the pastoral unit of Zwiefalter Alb within the Diocese of Rottenburg-Stuttgart. The building is a registered cultural monument and impresses with its Baroque architecture and size.
