Müller-Vargethsches Freihaus

The property is known as the „Müller-Vargeth Freihaus“, which was built in 1731 for the Nuremberg merchant Tobias Gottlieb Müller. After his death, the manor house fell to the merchant Johann Christoph Vargeth in 1744. After the middle of the century, an inn „Zum goldenen Schwan“ (To the Golden Swan) was established here, which was bought by the von Holzschuher family in 1770. After the death of Christoph Johann Sigmund Holzschuher, the property was acquired by a nobleman von Serz, probably Johann Wolfgang Albert. Whether his brother-in-law Heinrich Paul Wolfgang Günther initially became co-owner and only then sole owner has not yet been clarified.

The municipality of Kornburg bought the manor house to convert it into a schoolhouse in 1885. Later it was used as Kornburg Town Hall. After a less successful renovation in the 1970s, the manor house now accommodates doctor's offices, a pharmacy, and the Kornburg Citizens' Association.

The Müller-Vargeth Freihaus, later also referred to as Serz's Castle, stands out due to its similarity to the Seckendorff Manor House. Volker Alberti reports that Tobias Gottlieb Müller used the plans of the neighboring manor house during construction. Therefore, the facades of this building also appear with seven by three axes. In the central axis of the street side, an open staircase leads to the portal, which is decorated with a segmental arched pediment. The representative furnishings of the house, which also included elaborate stucco work, have largely fallen victim to later modernizations.
