Miller-von-Aichholz Castle

The Miller-von-Aichholz-Schlössel, also known as Europahaus Wien, located at Linzerstraße 429, was originally a baroque hunting lodge in Hütteldorf and today belongs to Vienna's 14th district, Penzing.

The castle was built around 1750 by Johann Georg Freiherr von Grechtler, an army supplier to Empress Maria Theresia. After Grechtler's death, the castle came into the possession of the Liechtenstein family and then to Counts Paul and Nikolaus Esterházy, who used the castle as a summer residence. In 1894, Heinrich von Miller zu Aichholz bought the castle complex, but the family had to sell it again due to the Great Depression. During the National Socialist era, the castle served as a recreation center for German police officials. After the war, the staff and the general secretariat of the French High Commissioner were housed in the castle. In 1955, the castle was occupied by the Austrian Young Workers' Movement (ÖJAB) and has been in use as "Europahaus Wien" since 1962.
