Markgräfliches Palace
The Margravial-Hochberg Palace, often simply called "Margravial Palace", is located at Rondellplatz.
The building was constructed from 1803 to 1814 by the architect Friedrich Weinbrenner. Grand Duke Karl Friedrich had it built for the sons of his second wife, the (unpopular among the people) Countess Luise Karoline von Hochberg.
An extensive ornamental and utility garden had been laid out by the court gardeners around the year 1800. A city description from 1858 states: "Six Corinthian columns form a portico, to which one ascends on steps on both sides, and support a tasteful pediment."
During the first major air raid on Karlsruhe, the palace was largely destroyed on September 3, 1942.
In 1960, the remains were demolished, but in 1963, it was restored, partly using the Neoclassical facade.
