The Cathedral of Maria Schutz und St. Andreas in Munich represents a significant modern sacred building. It serves as the main church of the Apostolic Exarchate for Germany and Scandinavia and is dedicated to Mary.
History+
Construction of the house of worship began in 1976, based on the designs of architect Erwin Schleich. The official consecration of the building took place on October 17, 1976. In November 2008, a memorial stone dedicated to the victims of the Holodomor was unveiled in front of the building. The church's patronage is based on the tradition of an apparition of Mary to Andrey Yurodivy, with the feast day of the Protection of the Mother of God celebrated on October 1/14.

The cathedral presents itself as a cuboid building with a width of approximately 18 meters and a length of around 24 meters. The facade is structured by a central entrance gate and a glass window above it, flanked by round bronze reliefs of Saints Vladimir and Olga. The rear of the building is characterized by three equally sized, semicircular apses symbolizing the Trinity. A dome crowned by a cross rises from the flat roof. Inside, an antechamber leads from the western entrance into the main room, whose slightly elevated altar area is separated by an iconostasis.
