Lehár-Schikaneder-Castle

The Lehár-Schikaneder-Schlössl is a building in Döbling, the 19th district of Vienna.

The building was erected in 1737 and received its still-preserved Baroque facade on the garden side. It is located in the Viennese Heuriger village of Nussdorf, at Hackhofergasse 18, between former winegrowers' houses and near the former Nussdorf brewery. In the first half of the 19th century, it was converted into a small palace (Schlössl).

From 1802 to 1812, Emanuel Schikaneder, librettist of Mozart's "The Magic Flute," lived here. From 1932 to 1944, operetta composer Franz Lehár, who composed "Giuditta" during this time, resided here. The salon on the upper floor houses paintings, photos, and documents commemorating both artists. Furthermore, there are numerous mementos of Anton Lehár, recipient of the Military Maria Theresian Order and brother of the composer, who lived here until his death in 1962.

The Schlössl is privately owned and can only be visited by prior arrangement.
