Ledreborg Slot (Castle)

To be privately owned

Ledreborg Castle, a magnificent Rococo edifice, rises in Lejre, Denmark, on the island of Zealand. It captivates with its largely original state of preservation and is surrounded by an expansive landscape park that invites visitors to linger.

History+

The construction of Ledreborg Castle began in 1739. The builder was the Danish Court Marshal Count Johan Ludvig von Holstein, who conceived it as the center of his extensive agricultural estate. At that time, the property covered an area of approximately 1,500 hectares. Despite careful renovations over the centuries, the castle's original Rococo character has been preserved. Today, the castle is managed by the family of the Counts of Holstein-Ledreborg for the eighth generation.

Location+

Ledreborg Castle is located in Lejre, in the Lejre district on the main Danish island of Zealand, at an elevation of approximately 57 meters above sea level.

On site+

Ledreborg Castle is privately owned and surrounded by an 80-hectare landscape park. This park, traversed by a deep ice-age ravine, was extensively renovated in 2006, following Baroque designs in the area around the castle. Inside the castle, visitors can view an extensive collection of paintings from the period of its construction.
