Ort Castle

Landschloss Ort is a square-shaped group of buildings that emerged in the first half of the 17th century from the outwork of Seeschloss. The latter had been burned down along with the Meierhof during the Peasants' War and was then rebuilt as a castle between 1626 and 1629. Under Archduke Johann Salvator, the interior of the castle was extensively renovated. During the First World War, it housed a military hospital. Since 1919, it has been used as a state forestry school and as a seminar and congress center.

Architecture

The square courtyard is marked by four towers crowned with onion domes. On the exterior, there are wrought-iron window grilles from the first half of the 17th century. In the inner courtyard, the coats of arms of the former castle owners are displayed; here there is also a Rococo fountain with the year 1777. The ballroom is equipped with a painted wooden coffered ceiling from 1604-1612. On the wall, large paintings from the 1st International Hunting Exhibition (Vienna, 1910) can be seen. The stucco frames of the doors and fireplaces also date from the construction period of the Landschloss.

The castle is used by the Austrian Federal Forests as a Forestry Training Center.
