Lager Koralle (OKM)

Lager Koralle (also: Objekt Koralle) was the codename for a military facility north of Bernau near Berlin, which housed the command center of the German Navy High Command (OKM) between 1943 and 1945.

The facility was initially intended as a naval signal school and only later received the name "Koralle". Construction began in 1939 in a heavily wooded area two kilometers northwest of Lobetal, north of Bernau. The land originally belonged to the Hoffnungstaler Anstalten.

Due to the danger of bombing, it was decided to relocate the command center of the German Navy High Command (OKM) from Berlin to a quieter area. On January 30, 1943, it moved its headquarters to Lager Koralle. Shortly thereafter, the main radio station of the Commander of U-boats (BdU) was also established on site. Thus, all communication links for the U-boat war now converged in the bomb-proof signal bunker of the station. After the advance of the Red Army and the encirclement of Berlin, on April 19, 1945, the order was given to relocate to the alternate headquarters Objekt Forelle near Plön and eight days later to Flensburg-Mürwik.

After the end of the war, a large part of the facility was blown up by Soviet troops. The ruins are still on site.

The deep bunker and Dönitz's house are still preserved today.
