Kolvenburg Castle

The Kolvenburg, also Colvenburg, is a moated castle in the south of the city center of Billerbeck in the district of Coesfeld.

It was a typical residence of the lower nobility in the Münsterland. It consists of building parts from the 15th and 16th centuries. Particularly striking is the double-sided half-hipped roof.

The Kolvenburg house was built in the 13th century by the Knights of Billerbeck. In the 14th century, the castle fell to the Colve family, who also gave the castle its name. Later, the Kolvenburg passed into the possession of the Voet and von Münster families. In the middle of the 17th century, the castle fell to the von Romberg family.

From 1958 to 1976, the Kolvenburg was extensively restored. Since 1976, it has served as an exhibition center for the district of Coesfeld.
