Kollegiatstift Unsere Liebe Frau, Eichstätt

The Collegiate Church of Our Lady in Eichstätt, Bavaria, was a historic monastery whose origins date back to the early 14th century. Dedicated to Saint Mary, it shaped the religious life of the region for centuries before its dissolution during secularization.
History+
The Collegiate Church of Our Lady was founded in 1318 by Markwart von Hageln, a canon of Eichstätt Cathedral. An existing Marian chapel, built approximately 300 years earlier, served as the initial place of worship. This chapel was replaced by a more extensive new building starting in 1472, which was completed by 1546. In 1806, the collegiate church was dissolved as part of the secularization process. Two years later, in 1808, the parish duties were transferred to Eichstätt Cathedral. The choir of the deconsecrated church was demolished in 1818 by city architect Jordan Maurer, while other parts of the church were incorporated into various houses, including the Palais Leuchtenberg in Munich. In 1983, during the demolition of houses built on the former collegiate church site in 1818, minor remnants of the collegiate church reappeared and were integrated into a newly constructed bank building.
