Propst- und Dechanthof St. Wolfgang

The origins of the collegiate church lie in the flourishing pilgrimage to the so-called "Wolfgangsbrunnen" in the 15th century, a place where Saint Wolfgang of Regensburg is said to have founded the settlement of St. Wolfgang around 975. Around 1460, Knight Sigmund von Fraunberg expanded the chapel there and planned in 1480 to establish a collegiate church with a provost, four canons, and a school director. This endeavor, however, failed despite papal permission due to resistance from the Collegiate Church of Isen. A renewed attempt by Duke Albrecht V of Bavaria in 1579 also proved unsuccessful due to a lack of suitable collegiate buildings. It was not until 1724 that the wealthy pastor Kaspar Fiechtner of Schwindau succeeded in establishing the foundation. Its existence lasted until the secularization in 1803, which led to the dissolution of the collegiate church. The church was then rededicated as a parish church, while the former collegiate building initially served as a rectory and later as the municipal administration and town hall. In spring 2005, the building underwent extensive and historically appropriate renovation.

The Collegiate Church of St. Wolfgang is situated in the municipality of St. Wolfgang in the district of Erding, in the Bavarian Oberland region of Germany.

The former collegiate church now serves as a parish church. The earlier collegiate building was used as a rectory after secularization and later housed the municipal administration and town hall. It underwent extensive renovation in 2005.
