The foundation was established in 1276 by Bishop Hildebrand. For centuries, it shaped religious life in Eichstätt until its dissolution in 1806 during the secularization. A distinctive feature was its use of the west choir within Eichstätt Cathedral, which is also known as the Willibald Choir due to the relics of Saint Willibald, the first bishop of Eichstätt, preserved there.
