Kollegiatstift St. Walpurgis, Weilburg

The foundation of the collegiate church took place in 911/912 by Conrad I, King of the East Frankish Kingdom. He established the collegiate church and a small collegiate church in memory of his father. In the following years, Conrad endowed the collegiate church with extensive possessions, including estates in Haiger and the royal court in Nassau. In 993, King Otto III gifted the collegiate church to the Bishop of Worms, and in 1002, the town of Weilburg also came under the diocese. The Counts of Nassau were appointed as vogts. Adolf of Nassau acquired the vogt territory in 1294, but the church patronage remained with the Bishop of Worms. Under Count Philipp I of Nassau-Weilburg, the original Walpurgis Church was demolished in 1397 and replaced by the collegiate church dedicated to Saint Andrew. An extension with a choir, dedicated to Saint Martin and intended to serve as the town church, began in 1508 and was completed only in 1538. In the course of the Reformation, the Collegiate Church of St. Walpurgis was dissolved in 1555, and its property was transferred to the Protestant Church. The St. Andrew's Church and St. Martin's Church were united into a Lutheran church. Between 1707 and 1713, the current palace church and town hall of Weilburg were erected on the site of the former collegiate church, incorporating parts of the earlier building fabric.

The former collegiate church was situated in the town of Weilburg, which is located in the central Hessian district of Limburg-Weilburg, Germany.

The original buildings of the collegiate church no longer exist in their initial form. In their place stand the current palace church and the town hall of Weilburg, built between 1707 and 1713, which integrate elements of the earlier construction.
