The former Collegiate Church of St. Nikolaus in Spalt, Bavaria, is a historic sacred building whose origins date back to the late 13th century. Dedicated to Saint Nicholas of Myra, it stands today as a protected monument, having undergone a dynamic history and architectural transformations.

History+

The foundation of the collegiate church took place in 1295 by Burgrave Konrad the Pious of Nuremberg and his wife Agnes, in collaboration with the Bishop of Eichstätt. Initially relocated to Abenberg in 1296, it returned to Spalt in 1300. At the beginning of the 17th century, it merged with the Collegiate Church of St. Emmeram. The united collegiate churches were dissolved during the secularization between 1804 and 1806. The associated St. Nikolaus Church, built around 1320, was redesigned in the Rococo style from 1767 onwards under the direction of court architect Moritz Pedetti, with Tassilo Zöpf creating the stucco work. Following secularization, the church was closed from 1806 to 1836.
