The origins of the monastery of St. Mary in Feuchtwangen date back to the late 8th century. Initially founded as a Benedictine monastery, it was dedicated to the Savior. In the course of its history, it developed into a collegiate church under the patronage of Mary. The monastery was dissolved and secularized in 1563 during the Reformation. The former collegiate church has since served as the Protestant-Lutheran parish church.
