Bartholomäistift Zerbst

The origins of the collegiate church date back to 1215, when St. Bartholomew's Church near Zerbst Castle was first mentioned in documents. Shortly before 1300, Burchard von Barby, then lord of Zerbst, founded a collegiate church at the site. In the late 14th century, the Counts of Anhalt, as territorial rulers, increasingly gained influence over the collegiate church, which developed into the most important in their entire dominion. With the introduction of the Reformation in Zerbst in 1524, the decline of the collegiate church began. From 1534, no new canons were appointed, and in 1542, the revenues passed to the city of Zerbst. However, St. Bartholomew's Church remained an evangelical parish church.

The Collegiate Church of St. Bartholomew was located in Zerbst, a town in the Anhalt-Bitterfeld district of Saxony-Anhalt, Germany. It was situated in the settlement near the castle, where a cloister and several canons' houses were found. No remains of these buildings are known today.

The former collegiate church of St. Bartholomew continues to serve today as an evangelical parish church. No traces of the former collegiate buildings, such as the cloister and canons' houses, remain.
