Kollegiatstift Öhringen

The Collegiate Foundation Öhringen was established in 1037 by Bishop Gebhard III of Regensburg and his mother Adelheid of Metz. The original parish church of the town became the spiritual center of the new foundation. The founders, who had inherited Öhringen, endowed the foundation with extensive landholdings, including several villages, to ensure the sustenance of the clergy. The foundation was dedicated to Saints Peter and Paul and housed secular canons responsible for conducting services in the collegiate church. It possessed internal autonomy and had its own coat of arms featuring crossed keys. Over the centuries, numerous donations from private individuals increased the foundation's property and income, including houses, farms, vineyards, and tithe rights. In 1371, a bread foundation was established to provide for the members of the foundation. The Collegiate Foundation was dissolved during the secularization in 1556.

The Collegiate Foundation Öhringen was located in the town of Öhringen in the Hohenlohe region, in the federal state of Baden-Württemberg, Germany.

The Collegiate Foundation Öhringen has not been in operation as a monastery since its dissolution in 1556. The collegiate church and other buildings that once belonged to the foundation, such as the collegiate school, the tithe barn, and the collegiate wine cellar, still bear witness to its former importance today.
