Königshof Palais
The Königshof in Glückstadt, Schleswig-Holstein, dates back to a former city palace of the Danish King Christian IV, of which today only the so-called Wiebke-Kruse-Turm (Wiebke Kruse Tower) still overlooks the Glückstadt harbour.
The Königshof was the first residence of the Danish king in the city founded in 1617. He used it until the completion of his Glückstadt Castle, which was built in the immediate vicinity by 1631. In 1638, the palace was given as a gift to his mistress Wiebke Kruse. The building was demolished after a fire in the 19th century; only the tower and the cellars remained. On the foundations, a residential building in the Historicist style was erected by 1867. The polygonal stair tower with its curved dome is still crowned today by a weather vane in the form of a rider and the Danish imperial orb.
