Herrenhaus Knigge+
Geschichte
In 1370, a moated castle existed, which was granted as a fief to the Knights of Knigge in that year. In 1425, the moated castle was demolished; the citizens of the city hoped thereby to become less of a magnet for warriors. A moated castle was built on the site of the castle. The present manor house was built from 1728 to 1732 for Friedrich Ludwig Freiherr von Knigge. It is surrounded by old trees. The design of the gate for the once planned access road is said to have been made by the Royal Hanoverian master builder Georg Ludwig Friedrich Laves.
