Klosterruine Bärbach

The first mention of Bärbach Monastery dates back to 1339. It was founded by the Clarissan order and existed until its dissolution in 1567. Following secularization, its assets were transferred to the Gronau Hospital. Around 1584, the monastery buildings suffered destruction. Of the original single-nave Gothic monastery church, which featured four bays and a narrower, flat-ended choir, only a small part of the north wall and sections of the nave's gable remain today. Additionally, other wall remnants of the monastic structures and the surrounding walls are visible. The bell of the former monastery church is now housed in the Protestant church in Wasenbach.

The Bärbach Monastery Ruin is situated in a side valley of the Rupbach, within the municipality of Schönborn. This area is part of the Rhein-Lahn district, a region in Rhineland-Palatinate, Germany.

Today, only ruins of the monastic complex remain, protected as a cultural monument. Visitors can explore the surviving wall remnants of the church and other monastery buildings, which offer insights into medieval architecture and monastic life.
