Klosterkirche Uetersen

The current church replaced an earlier structure from 1239/40, which had to be demolished in 1738 due to dilapidation. The foundation walls of the old church are still preserved as a retaining wall for the monastery cemetery, and its historic bell is now displayed in the new church. The new building was constructed between 1747 and 1749, largely initiated and financially supported by Uetersen's Provost Benedikt von Ahlefeldt. Master builders Jasper Carstens from Jersbek and state architect O. J. Müller from Copenhagen were responsible for its erection. A portion of the construction costs was covered by the purchase of church pews by community members and marsh farmers.

The Uetersen Monastery Church is located in the town of Uetersen in the Pinneberg district, Schleswig-Holstein, Germany. It is an integral part of the historic monastery complex.

Today, the Monastery Church presents itself as a late Baroque brick building. It is a hall church with a longitudinal rectangular floor plan and rests on granite ashlar plinths. A distinctive feature is the tower, half-integrated into the nave on the east side, whereas most churches in the region have their towers in the west. The interior is bright and spacious, characterized by a barrel vault with a large ceiling fresco. The pulpit altar, the Baroque organ, and the altar relief from the predecessor building are notable furnishings. The church is a protected monument and ranks among the most important Baroque sacred buildings in the Pinneberg district.
