Wechterswinkel Monastery
Wechterswinkel Abbey is a former Cistercian nunnery in Bavaria in the Diocese of Würzburg.
The abbey, dedicated to SS. Trinitas and St. Margareta (today: SS. Cosmas and Damian), was founded in 1134 by Bishop Embricho of Würzburg, with King Konrad III as co-founder.
In 1592, the abbey was dissolved by Julius Echter von Mespelbrunn, Bishop of Würzburg. Its assets formed the basis of a foundation for the benefit of parishes and schools. The assets and lands continued to be administered locally in Wechterswinkel. For this purpose, the Bishop of Würzburg maintained the Wechterswinkel Provostry which, having been rebuilt several times, is well preserved in its Neoclassical state from 1793.
