Kloster St. Maria

The construction of St. Maria Monastery took place between 1951 and 1959, based on plans by architect Heinrich Hebgen. The church was consecrated in March 1959. Until 2005, it served as the provincial motherhouse for the Palatinate province of the order, which later merged into the German and Austrian province. From 2010, the monastery opened its doors to guests, offering conference and accommodation facilities. In 2019, due to the demographic development of the order, the monastery was put up for sale and acquired by Slow Life GmbH Esthal in November of that year. However, this purchase agreement was dissolved in 2020 due to non-payment of the purchase price. In March 2021, it was sold again to Europäisches Haus Esthal GmbH, which continued its operation as a guesthouse. The community of sisters was dissolved in November 2022, marking the end of the order's presence in Esthal after approximately a century. An art-historically significant cross in the church's choir was acquired in 1984, and much of the remaining furnishings were newly created by Josef Henger in 1986.

The monastery is situated on the eastern edge of the municipality of Esthal in Rhineland-Palatinate, Germany. To the east of the premises lies the Aschberg mountain.

The former monastery now operates as a guesthouse and conference center under the name Europäisches Haus Esthal GmbH. The monastery church continues to be used as a place of worship, with masses regularly celebrated there.
