Kloster St. Gabriel

The monastery in Munich was established in 1840 by three sisters of the order, marking the first settlement of the Sisters of the Good Shepherd in Germany. King Ludwig I provided a site with a dilapidated castle in Haidhausen for its construction. The first service in the newly built Neo-Gothic church was celebrated in 1843. The community grew quickly, with 26 sisters residing at the monastery by 1844. In 1965, the sisters relocated to the current Monastery of St. Gabriel on Wolfratshauser Straße.

The Monastery of St. Gabriel is situated in Solln, the southernmost district of Munich, in the federal state of Bavaria, Germany. It is located in close proximity to the Warnberg estate.

Today, the Monastery of St. Gabriel houses various social facilities. These include a youth welfare section with Haus Debora, a crèche, and a children's home. Additionally, the Blind Institute Foundation operates a branch of the Munich Blind Institute on the premises, where children and adolescents with visual and multiple disabilities attend the Maria-Ludwig-Ferdinand School. The monastery was also the location of Munich's first baby hatch. Furthermore, there is a mother-and-child home, a community college, and a monastery hairdresser. A dedicated house focuses on supporting underage mothers.
