St. Elisabeth Monastery (Neuburg an der Donau)

The St. Elisabeth Monastery was founded on July 8, 1840, when three sisters of the Elisabethine Order from the Azlburg Monastery near Straubing established a branch in Neuburg. This initiative was significantly supported by Electress Leopoldina from Austria. Initially, the sisters took over nursing care for women in the local hospital and poorhouse. In 1954, the order sisters expanded their commitment to pediatric nursing and opened a children's hospital in 1961, which was renovated and modernized in 1999. Until 1978, care focused on women and children. Following the withdrawal of the Merciful Brothers in the same year, the Elisabethines assumed all nursing care in Neuburg. Between 1987 and 1992, the clinic was extensively rebuilt to now also serve men. The monastery, which has used new premises with the St. Wolfgang Chapel since 1996, also operates a nursing school since 1948 and a pediatric nursing school since 1954. The order is the sole shareholder of Vereinigte Ordenskrankenhäuser GmbH, which operates the St. Elisabeth Neuburg Clinics. In June 2017, the clinics were taken over by the Catholic Youth Welfare of the Diocese of Augsburg.

The St. Elisabeth Monastery is located in Neuburg an der Donau, a town in the district of Neuburg-Schrobenhausen in Bavaria, Germany.

The monastery remains active and houses the St. Elisabeth Clinics, which offer comprehensive medical care for women, men, and children. It is also a training center for nursing and pediatric nursing.
