Kloster St. Elisabeth

The origins of St. Elisabeth Convent date back to 1897, when the Maria Stern Convent in Augsburg acquired a canon's court. Initially, this served as a nursing home for elderly and sick sisters under the name “Haus St. Antonius”. In 1914, an adjacent property was purchased to establish classrooms for a higher girls' school and an extended vocational training school, which had previously been housed in the mother convent. In 1922, the institution was transformed into a three-year secondary school. Between 1925 and 1926, a new building was constructed, giving the branch convent the name St. Elisabeth. In 1927, a kindergarten teacher training seminary and further vocational schools were added. During the Nazi era, the schools were gradually closed. During the air raids on Augsburg in February 1944, the property suffered severe damage. Shortly thereafter, the sisters opened a soup kitchen that fed up to a thousand people daily and only closed in 1957. After World War II, vocational training courses, the convent's novitiate, and a branch school of the Maria Stern Realschule moved into the premises. In 1958, the kindergarten teacher training seminary returned, now known as the Maria Stern Academy for Social Pedagogy, complemented by a vocational school for nutrition and supply.

St. Elisabeth Convent is located in the city of Augsburg, in the federal state of Bavaria, Germany. It is situated in the Bleich und Pfärrle district, on Inneres Pfaffengässchen street.

The convent includes a small St. Elisabeth convent church, which is a post-war construction and not a listed building. Today, the institution houses, among others, the Maria Stern Academy for Social Pedagogy and a vocational school for nutrition and supply.
