Schönthal Abbey

Schönthal Abbey is a former Augustinian Hermits monastery in Schönthal, Bavaria, in the Diocese of Regensburg.
The monastery, dedicated to Saint Mary and Saint Michael, was a Wilhelmine monastery from 1250 to 1263, and an Augustinian Hermits monastery from 1263. It was dissolved in 1802 during the secularization. The conventuals were relocated to Munich. The monastery estates were sold, and the monastery buildings, brewery, and monastery pharmacy were auctioned off. The monastery church burned down in 1833, was later rebuilt, and extensively renovated in 1909.
