The origins of the Santuari de Lluc date back to 1230, when the first chapel was built shortly after the Christian reconquest of Mallorca. By 1260, it was expanded into an Augustinian hermitage. In the 15th century, the administration of the pilgrimage site was reorganized and it was transformed into a collegiate church in 1456. An important development was the founding of the boys' choir “els Blauets” around 1450, a tradition that continues to this day. The current Renaissance-style church building was begun in 1622 and completed in 1691, with the high altar consecrated in 1684.
