Kloster Sankt Augustinus

Following the destruction of their motherhouse in Breslau during World War II, the Sisters of Mary sought new places of activity. As early as 1945, they became involved in the Mater Dolorosa parish in Lankwitz, where they initially focused on nursing and pastoral care for refugees. In the same year, a transit home was converted into a home for the elderly and infirm, named St. Franziskusheim. From 1948, the sisters moved into a rebuilt former barracks on Gallwitzallee, which was named Maria Trost. There, they gradually established a hospital operation. Through the mediation of politician Johann Baptist Gradl, the Sisters of Mary were able to acquire the building complex in 1966. Between 1987 and 1993, new buildings were constructed for the hospital, which was renamed Sankt-Marien-Krankenhaus in 1990. The current monastery with its chapel was built from 1992 to 1996 and consecrated in 1996. The chapel features stained-glass windows by artist Erentrud Trost, depicting the Spirit-filled Church and Mary as the Church. In 2006, the two German provinces of the religious community were merged. Since 2022, the monastery has been part of the St. Maria – Berliner Süden parish in the Archdiocese of Berlin.

The Monastery of Saint Augustine is situated on Gallwitzallee in the Lankwitz district of Berlin, within the German capital city of Berlin.

Today, the monastery is an active convent of the Sisters of Mary of the Immaculate Conception and serves as a spiritual hub. It is integrated into the local parish community and houses a chapel with remarkable stained-glass windows.
