Sancta Maria in Paradyso Abbey

Of the former monastery church, structural remains of the nave and minor remains of the choir are still visible above ground. The nave was equipped with a three-bay brick vault, of which parts of the vault springings are still preserved. Assumptions about a possible polygonal choir end were disproved by an excavation in 2013. Presumably, a round apse was added to the choir in a modern construction phase, as recognizable construction joints indicate. In the area of the west portal, at least two construction phases of a west gallery can be identified in the form of beam holes and subsequently added recesses for a vault. In the course of the mentioned excavation, two octagonal sandstone column bases of the west gallery and parts of a brick floor in a spicatum pattern were also uncovered. An illustration in the so-called Kronprinzenwerk from 1888 shows remains of the attached two-story monastery building at the northwest corner of the nave. East of the monastery church, minor remains of a rectangular outbuilding are visible. On the steep slope west of the nave, there is a substructure and remains of a buttress.
