Kloster Ringelheim

The foundation of Ringelheim Monastery as a women's collegiate church is dated to the year 941. It was established by Immad, a descendant of the Saxon Duke Widukind from the Immedinger family, and dedicated to Saints Abdon and Sennen. Imhilde, the founder's daughter, was installed as the first abbess. As a free imperial abbey, the collegiate church was directly subject to King Otto I and, in spiritual matters, to the Pope. The original foundation charter, issued by Otto I, is only preserved in later copies. In 1153, the women's collegiate church was converted into a Benedictine abbey. This existed until its secularization in 1803, after which the property passed into private ownership and was converted into a castle in 1817.

The former Ringelheim Monastery is situated in the present-day district of Ringelheim within Salzgitter, a city in the federal state of Lower Saxony, Germany.

Following its secularization and conversion in the early 19th century, the former monastery building now serves as a castle.
