Michelfeld Abbey
Michelfeld Abbey is a former Benedictine monastery in the Michelfeld district of the city of Auerbach in the Diocese of Bamberg.
The monastery, dedicated to St. Michael and St. John the Evangelist, was founded in 1119 by Bishop Otto I of Bamberg; it was dissolved in 1803 (and previously from 1556–1661/1684). The monastery was placed under electoral administration on March 13, 1802. In 1803, it was finally dissolved as part of the secularization. The abbey church, richly decorated in Baroque style by the Asam brothers at the beginning of the 18th century, became a parish church.
Today, the spacious monastery complex houses an institution of the Regens Wagner Foundation.
