Kloster Marienheide (Wollstein)

The Monastic Family of Bethlehem was founded in France in 1950. A first German establishment was created in 1991 in the Diocese of Hildesheim, where the sisters moved into a villa in Neuenkirchen-Hertel. However, as this location did not offer the necessary seclusion for their way of life, the community sought a new site. In 2000, the sisters found a suitable property in the former manor village of Wollstein. With the support of the Diocese of Fulda and other benefactors, the monastery was established in the historic buildings, including hermitages for the sisters, communal facilities, and a stable-church, which was consecrated in 2008.

Kloster Marienheide is situated in the northeast of Hesse, in the Werra-Meißner district, near the Harmuthsachsen district of Waldkappel. It is nestled in the Stölzinger Gebirge, part of the Fulda-Werra Uplands, and is located within the Geo-Nature Park Frau-Holle-Land. The complex lies on the upper reaches of the Hainebach, surrounded by the elevations of Sommerberg, Eisberg, and Fortberg.

The monastery serves the sisters of the Monastic Family of Bethlehem as a place of contemplative life. It includes hermitages, communal facilities, and a church that was established in a former stable building.
