Kelheim Abbey
Kelheim Monastery is a former monastery of the Franciscan Reformists on Michelsberg in Kelheim, Bavaria, in the Diocese of Regensburg.
The monastery was baroque-styled in the 18th century. The two-story hip-roofed building forms a three-wing complex around a cloister. Of the monastery complex, only the vaulted ground-floor rooms in the west wing (stable building) and north wing, as well as the utility buildings with vaults from the 18th century, remain.
The Franciscan monastery, dedicated to the Blessed Virgin Mary, was founded in 1461 or 1471 by Johann IV and Sigmund together with the citizens of Kelheim. Around 1635 it was a hospice, otherwise a convent. It was dissolved in 1802 during the secularization. A brewery and an inn were established in the monastery complex. The monastery church has been used for services again since 1878. There is an organ museum in the church.
