Kloster Herz Jesu (Mindelheim)
The Monastery Herz Jesu in Mindelheim, situated in the Bavarian Unterallgäu, is a historic sacred building whose origins date back to the early 18th century. It is renowned for its long tradition in girls' education and is currently protected as a listed building.
History+
The monastery was founded in 1701 by Duke Max Philipp of Bavaria and his wife Mauritia Febronia. From its inception, the institution was dedicated to the education of girls, quickly establishing a school and an associated boarding house. This educational mission was continued for centuries by the English Ladies, an institute of the Maria Ward Sisters. In 1997, the sponsorship of the school, now known as the Maria-Ward-Realschule Mindelheim, was transferred to the Schulwerk der Diözese Augsburg. However, the day care center and the boarding school continue to be managed by the Maria Ward Sisters.
