Kloster Gethsemani

The origins of Gethsemani Monastery date back to 1984, when two nuns from the Trappistine Abbey of Maria Frieden in Dahlem initiated its founding. In 2003, the monastery was officially incorporated into the Trappist Order as a foundation of Altbronn Abbey. From its inception, the Abbot of Echt served as the immediate father of the monastery. Sister Magdalena König OCSO shaped the monastery for many years as prioress and was reconfirmed in her office for an indefinite period on March 21, 2018.

The monastery is located in the Donnersberg district, a region in Rhineland-Palatinate, Germany. It is situated on the Donnersberg, a prominent mountain in the Palatinate, near the village of Dannenfels.

Monastic life focuses on divine service, the Liturgy of the Hours, Eucharistic adoration, and nocturnal prayer. To support themselves, the nuns operate an embroidery and tailoring workshop for paraments, a bookbindery, a candle-making workshop, and a monastery shop. Garden and household chores are also part of their activities. In 2006, six nuns resided at the monastery. Since 2004, a chest organ by Gerhard Kuhn Orgelbau has been part of the monastery's furnishings.
