Kloster Furth

The Marist Monastery of Furth was founded in 1915 when the Brothers, originally from Belgium, sought new accommodation due to the outbreak of the First World War. They found it in a summer villa with a park, which had previously been built by Baroness Freifrau Philomena von Hornstein. Between 1951 and 1953, the modern monastery church was built and consecrated to the Immaculate Heart of Mary. Until 2000, the monastery was the seat of the German Province of the Marist Brothers before becoming part of the Central-West Europe Province. In 2015, the municipal company of Furth acquired the monastery grounds. This led to the deconsecration of the former monastery church in 2018 and extensive redesign measures, including the creation of a community hall and other facilities.

Kloster Furth is situated in the municipality of Furth, which belongs to the district of Landshut in Lower Bavaria. The region is known for its rural character and its proximity to the city of Landshut.

Today, approximately 16 Brothers still live at Kloster Furth, operating, among other things, the St. Josef monastery distillery. The premises also house a seminar and training center, which opened in 2019, as well as a show brewery with an attached pub, which began operations in 2020. The former monastery church is being converted into a community hall, intended for cultural events.
