Fürstenfeld Abbey, a former Cistercian monastery, is located in Fürstenfeldbruck, Bavaria, approximately 25 kilometers west of Munich. The impressive abbey church of St. Maria is considered a masterpiece of South German late Baroque and stands as a testament to the rich history and art of this region.

History+

The foundation of Fürstenfeld Abbey took place in 1265. It was endowed by Duke Ludwig II the Strict and evolved into one of the Wittelsbach family monasteries. Throughout its history, the abbey experienced various developments and challenges. Following looting during the Thirty Years' War in 1632/1633, reconstruction began around 1640. In 1691, the foundation stone was laid for the Baroque monastery complex, whose construction extended into the 18th century. The abbey church, dedicated to the Assumption of Mary, was consecrated in 1741. In the course of secularization, Fürstenfeld Abbey was dissolved in 1803.
