Frankenhausen Abbey

The Abbey can be visited

The place was first mentioned in a document as early as 1271, as the knight's seat of a Heinrici von Vrankenhusen. Dietrich von Landsberg donated the area to the nuns of Grünberg on May 4, 1276. They settled in Frankenhausen in 1292. The new monastery burned down in 1410, and a new one was built soon after. The buildings of the monastery school and the prior's house, which still exist today, date from this period.
