Drübeck Abbey

Conference center

Drübeck Monastery, a former Benedictine abbey, is picturesquely situated on the northern edge of the Harz mountains in Saxony-Anhalt. Today, it serves as an important conference center for the Evangelical Church in Central Germany and houses a House of Silence and a Pastoral College.

History+

The first documented mention of Drübeck Monastery dates back to the year 960. In the 10th century, the foundation enjoyed special privileges, comparable to imperial abbeys. After a temporary interruption of monastic life during the Reformation and the Peasants' War, the buildings were handed over to the Counts of Stolberg-Wernigerode in 1687, who established an evangelical convent for noblewomen there. In 1946, the Evangelical Church Province of Saxony took over the monastery, using it as a recreation home and conference center. The last canoness passed away in 1976. Since 1996, the Pastoral College and the House of Silence, among other institutions, have been located here.
