The origins of Clus Monastery date back to the early 12th century, with a confirmed foundation in 1124. It was established as a Benedictine monastery and served for centuries as a place of prayer and scholarship. The monastery church was dedicated to Saint Mary, the Holy Cross, Saint George, and All Saints. In the course of the Reformation, the monastery was secularized in 1596, thereby dissolving its independent spiritual establishment.
